How to Avoid the Waiting Place
Today I want to write about something that's been heavy on my heart for a while. Because of just how crazy things are right now, I think everybody's been a little cautious to speak some hard truths and/or give some tough love.
But that's what I want to do here today.
At the time I am writing this, we still have two whole months left in 2020. That is a lot of days. When I look around social media right now, it is filled with “when will 2020 ever end” posts.
It's as if everyone is expecting to wake up on January 1, 2021 and suddenly everything will be “normal” again. The pandemic will be gone, kids will be in school, jobs will be restored, etc.
I'm not trying to be a Debbie Downer by any stretch, but that is not going to be our reality. I keep hearing that Dr. Seuss book, “Oh! The Places You'll Go” in my head. He talks about the ‘waiting place’ in the book.
Do you know what happens in the ‘waiting place?’ Absolutely nothing. Nothing good, nothing bad, just nothing. Because you're stagnant. You are not taking the opportunity to do things... to move forward on your goals.. to create wonderful things with your family.. to do projects at home, etc.
Friends, we have 2 choices right now:
Choice number one is to play the waiting game and to just sit here and wait it out and watch the days, weeks and months go by where you're just stuck in this waiting place. Not doing anything. Not going anywhere. Just waiting.
Choice number two is start moving again. If you aren’t sure how to get going, here are three things you can do right now:
- Grab a pen and paper and write down what good you have experienced in the last several months.
- Write down what you are committed to doing over the next two months to get “unstuck.” What are you going to do to make the rest of 2020 something that you can be proud of?
- Start thinking about next year. I want you to wake up on January 1st knowing what goals you have for that for the year.
Let’s band together and say, “Yes...2020 has been tough...but I am going to finish in ACTION and with PURPOSE!”
Are you in?
